Rock Chucks
description:
There is a family of Rock Chucks that is near my turn-around-point when I run the north-bound segment of the Jordan River Parkway. I saw a Rock Chuck there a couple of times last year, and I saw a female Rock Chuck and three babies there this spring. I finally captured one of the babies with my camera during my run this morning. You can tell it is a baby, because it is smaller and is of a darker color; adults have more reddish brown to their fur.
Rock Chucks are yellow-bellied marmots and are also known as ground squirrels.
I also saw an adult Rock Chuck this morning. It was about 1/2 mile away from the one I filmed, and it ran across a field to a large pile of rocks.
