Inspiring ways to be well.

Location

Plymouth, MA

I just started yoga *and* zumba (ha!), I am a vegetarian, I buy organic whenever possible, I always recycle, I ride a motorcycle-and love it, I enjoy taking pictures, and I treasure all things funny, and special...especially with my girls!

Right now I am trying to stick to a routine of yoga, at least 2x/week. I plan to post my progress an photos on well, then...in addition to journaling my progress back to thin and healthy!!

Today, I started the first of my daily Gentle Yoga classes. The classes are super early (...and if you know me, you know the morning is painful for me!) but this works with my work schedule, and, let's face it, I need to feel better!

I think Yoga is definately active, but for me, my yoga experiences are about emotional wellbeing and stress reduction. It's teh one thing I do, just for me! So, I've classifeid this story under "reducing stress."

So...here's how the first day went...

I have very little experience under my belt, and I was a little nervous about not knowing the names of all poses (animal names are guessable, all others reqire more study!). All considered, I left feeling great, and plan to go back tomorrow.

Today's instructor, Elizabeth, was so welcoming, very instructional, and challenging. I learned a lot today, and even though I had to have looked utterly pathetic at times (like when I needed a block under my forehead in child's pose, because my belly was in the way), she was kind and encouraging. She explained how each pose is supposed to feel, and how to modify it, if necessary (in my case...necessary...you know because I have zero upper body strength-don't want to break a nose).

All kidding aside, she did a really nice job of coming over and "fixing me up" whenever I looked like I needed a little adjustment to a foot, leg, or arm. I didn't feel bad about myself for it, I felt helped.

This afternoon, I definately feel like I worked out. Sore, but not in pain. I think I am going to enjoy this class. Wish me luck on day two!

Sounds like a great first day of your class. Inspirational since I 've always felt like I'd be too lost to even give yoga a shot. But, finding a good instructor is the key!

I've been thinking about adding yoga to my regime to change things up. There's a place not far from my house. You've inspired me to drive by on my way to the gym tonight and copy down the # to call. Amazing how little it takes to remind us of the muscles we don't use every day! Good for you!!

Don't stop posing!!
Yoga is awesome! There are a ton of local yoga offerings out there from beginner to advanced. Yoga is a great stress reducer and overall workout. It's great for people who have to be easy on their joints and really helps improve balance. You won't believe how toned and good you feel just after a couple of weeks. For an enhanced workout, try Hot Yoga! You'll be sweating off the pounds and stress.
