Today, I had an excellent blood glucose day and tomorrow I can eat the same exact thing and have a terrible blood glucose day. The meter can read high one minute, 5 hours later it can read low. Is it my fault? Nope. Do I blame myself? Yes. But after I realized sometimes things are beyond my control I try hard not to blame myself because I finally realized that Diabetes is an unpredictable diease.

People with Diabetes are told by their Health Care Professionals to maintain a blood glucose level of 80-140 and to keep your A1C below 7.0. When our blood glucose levels are out of range we are quick to blame ourselves. We sit the meter down and try to analyze what we've did wrong, even though we know we didn't eat a lot of carbohydrates and we gave ourselves enough insulin/pill to cover our meal.

Let's not mention the dreaded Endo appointment. The Endo enters the exam room and informs us that our A1C is above 7.0. We leave with our head hanging low and disappointed because we didn't achieve 7.0. We tried hard but a few months ago-we were either sick, stressed and had fluctuating blood glucose levels or all of the above-Life happens-we are not perfect.

I did not ask for diabetes. You did not ask for diabetes.

We need to stop blaming ourselves for something we have to manage but sometimes have no control over.

We tried. We didn't fail. We are going to keep trying. We will succeed. Breathe, Pray and Relax. Tomorrow is a new day! Don't let Diabetes steal your Joy.

Be Blessed

Cherise, what a great message! It is so easy for us to instantly turn on ourselves when sometimes things are out of our control.

Catherine, Thank you! I think we all have placed the blame game and we point the finger at ourselves. Thank you for the comment. I just noticed I had a typo. lol

Thanks for the message. I have thought Diabetes is a blessing not a curse. I know I can educate more people about this Silent disease and it doesn't discriminate.

Encouraging message! People living with diabetes can certainly do their best with lifestyle management in order to control those numbers. Sometimes when they are out of whack....it just happens. Sometimes "off" numbers can be a good thing signaling too much stress, or impending illness such as colds or viruses.

Frozenaka2SSouthernDiabitic- You are welcome! I agree with you-I diabetes was and has been a blessing. I do not consider it a curse. Education is the key and like you said diabetes doesn't discriminate.

lsurpren- Thank you! I am so glad you get it.
