Eating less salt- can we do it?
In January, new guidelines recommended cutting daily salt intake to 2300 mg (about a tsp) and 1500 mg (2/3 tsp) for those 51 years and older as it's a main contributor to a host of health problems.
Most salt doesn't come from our salt shakers- it's hidden in our food. One way to check it is to read food labels and look for a 1-to-1 ratio of calories to sodium. If a food has 150 calories /serving, look for 150 mg or less of sodium in that serving.
