Hi, My name is Laurie and I'm one of the nurses at Harvard Pilgrim Health Care. I've always enjoyed outdoor activites especially biking and hiking. Feeling a little "Zen" at work
I have the luxury of playing soft background music at work. Instead of tuning into the radio, I play pre-recorded instrumental CDs from various genres. The bulk of what I play is music that you would hear in a spa like setting, ancient flutes, Chinese strings & percussion, solo acoustic guitar, relaxation, and meditation music you can find where CDs are sold. This can really set the tone in the workplace and help calm a stressful environment. I think most people can attest to music and the effect it has on mood.
I agree- soothing background music can definitely be a stress reducer. Studies have been done that support this. It's always been interesting to me to see the different styles people have when doing focused work. I'm one of those who've always liked it quiet when working on the computer. One of my immediate neighbor's at work also listens to music, but always uses a headset for others around her who who might find rap, country, heavy metal, or no music more soothing.
