Diet...one of the major pieces that goes into how your perform in your sport. How would you rate your fuel? Are you filling up with high-octane race fuel or are you filling up on that cheap stuff just to get by? I believe a lot of us are guilty when we look at what we eat during our training. We focus on sleep and making sure we make every training run, but we eat whatever we want because we're running all the time. Makes sense right?

Well...just depends on what you're looking for. Just doing this for fun? Just running so you can eat? Well, if you're not...don't you think you should be looking at what you're shoving down your pie hole? Now, don't think that I am some kind of elite nutritionist. I ran my first marathon on Chipotle burritos, McDonalds Egg McMuffins, Papa Johns Pizza, and beverages at my favorite hangout...The Fox and Hound.

A lot of things have changed since 2006...I'm in my 30s and am married to a very health-orientated wife. My exercise routine is totally different. I'm not logging mile after long mile along the running trail...my runs come in the form of time trials or sprints and my weeks are filled with high-intensity CrossFit WODs. My body needs fuel and its not coming in the form of fast food and soda...well, most of it doesn't.

Now that we have all decided that we want to eat right, what does "right" mean? There are so many diets out there. Do we want to eat for our blood type? Eat like the cavemen (and women) did? Should we enter The Zone? Or maybe we'll just follow the USDA food pyramid? Everyone is going to have a different opinion and let me tell you...outside of religion and politics...diet is a very touchy subject.

Lucky for you (or maybe not) I love to research. Isis and I have been following the Paleo Diet for Athletes about 80% of the time and have also been playing around with Eat Right for Your Blood Type. Over the next few months I will be diving into these and other popular diets and discussing them on our blog. I'm asking you to join in on the conversation because we want to hear what you think! Post your opinion (keep it friendly), post your diet, post your favorite recipe! We look forward to the convo!
