Do you have any tips for getting my sedentary husband moving? Please help me find a way to encourage him without being a 'nag'!

That's a tough one, especially the "without being a nag" part! Many of us are dealing with that same dilemma- wanting our loved ones to have healthier behaviors and knowing nagging, preaching, educating etc. are not helpful.

You sound like you're active, so you are already doing one of the things I find helpful- being active yourself. That has worked for me- I notice my husband exercises more when I do (not necessarily at the same time, but he just seems to do more with his own activity level then).

In my experience, people need to figure out for themselves what their wellness goals are and you might offer options for how to achieve them. One goal might be modeling healthy behavior for the 'chatterboxes' in his life, with an invite for a short family walk (to start) a couple times per week. Pick an end point for the walk, and try and go further the 2nd time. It becomes a family activity and challenge.

Hiker really hit the nail on the head. You have to be supportive but NEVER pushy. Invite him to go, let him know it's his pace and that's about it. I equate it with quitting smoking (which I did for many years), even after seeing the pictures of black lungs, and knowing it was bad I still smoked until the day I decided (stress the I) to quit. It has to come from within and when it happens it will happen. So, be supportive and it will come in its own time. Good luck!
