I'm a nineteen year old university student on the Canadian Prairies studying human development and kinesiology and applied health. I plan to enter the fields of occupational therapy and asthma education in the future.

I was diagnosed with asthma when I was seventeen, and have had my share of ups and downs living with crazy lungs.

KerriOnThePrairies submitted a way to: Live with asthma

keeping two very important things on my person!

The folks at well, then asked me "What do you never leave home without?"

This video covers the two basics I never, ever leave home without [hopefully] and why.

Of course, it all depends on how long I'm gonna be gone!

Under 4 hours: rescue inhaler
Under 4 hours or within an Atrovent-dose time: atrovent, spacer and the above
Over 6-8 hours: all of the above plus Symbicort, my main maintenance inhaler
Over 18-24 hours: all of the above, plus Pulmicort, plus my nebulizer and nebbed Ventolin and my peak flow meter. And probably throw in some Advil and antihistamines just in case.

Oh, and if I'm travelling by by air, I take backups of all my medications divided in my carry on and checked luggage. And, I check my doses left if I'm travelling not by air and pack extra if anything looks iffy . . . but thats a whole other post!
