I've been taking the stairs at work a lot more lately. I'm on the third floor so that's pretty good, right? I am going to start scheduling time on my calendar to do "building laps." Where I work you can walk from one wing to the other, down the stairs, back to the other wing, and back up 3 flights. Probably 15 miles. OK, not really 15 miles but I figure I am getting up and moving, which is better for my hear than just sitting all day. Maybe you can come up with a loop where you work, too.

I like those 'building laps'- good for you to be doing the stairs- any activity is better than sitting (except for eating I guess!). I have read that people who use pedometers do more walking than those without.

I've been doing the stairs more too. It's a great way to sneak in a few extra steps - and often is faster than waiting for the elevator.

since i have started taking the stairs more, my need for an oxygen tank once i get up to the 3rd floor has decreased!! ;)

This is one of those tips that people tend to forget. I know I often forget how useful a little exercise is rather than waiting for that "perfect" 30 minutes or so.

Right, and some of the newer research indicates that even breaking out the 30 minutes into 10 minute segments offers a benefit. Trainers still like to see the 30 minutes occur together, but some is better than none. I also park a distance from the grocery store, etc. Yesterday at work, I didn't have my laptop with me so started my day by running up the 4 flights of stairs and then did it 3 more times on the way back from meetings throughout the day. Whew- I've got to start doing more cardio! Though I must say, the last run up was easier than that 6:45 AM run...
