Inspiring ways to be well.

I am a stay-at-home mother of one and have been homeschooling my daughter for the past four years. I have suffered from sleep apnea since I was a baby and also deal with Chronic Major Depression.

The idea of 'naps' are commonly associated with a classroom full of mat-wetting kindergarteners. But naps are actually healthy for everyone, including adults. The problem lies in the length of the nap.

When I was undergoing sleep testing, my doctor told me to sleep no longer than thirty minutes during the day. Any longer can cause you to wake up grouchy and still tired. Napping too long can also, of course, make it harder for you to sleep at night. Laying down to catch a few winks is beneficial, then, if you sleep for half an hour or less.

These brief pick-me-ups will help refresh you with renewed concentration, mood, and performance. I even know some who just put their head down on their desk for a quick 'power nap' of 15-30 minutes at lunch.

What do you do when you start to lose steam during the day?
