Inspiring ways to be well.

For the past few years I've written the blog Scale Junkie about my ongoing efforts to eat healthy, exercise and lose weight. I've lost and kept off over 50 pounds so far but I have a long journey ahead of me. I've spent a lot of time working on the mental aspects of why I overeat and now that I understand them, the weight is starting to come off again. My weight loss has been slow but steady, its frustrating but I keep trying. Join me on my journey, together we can reach our goals!

I currently live in the Tampa Bay area with my wonderful husband and two dogs. I'm self employed and spend my free time taking metalsmithing classes to improve my jewelery making skills.

The new year is under way and today is a good day to get started making all of those New Year's Resolutions reality. It can be pretty overwhelming to undertake changes and it can feel very isolating. You don't have to go it alone, find a support system!

You aren't the only one who is starting a new healthy lifestyle so why not find someone with common goals to buddy up with and encourage you through the good and bad. It could be a spouse, sibling, friend or coworker, anyone who you feel would be supportive of your healthy goals and hopefully has a few healthy goals of their own. You could even start a little group.

So what are some of the things you can do to keep it fun?

Create challenges for yourselves: Asses where you are now by checking your weight, measurements and fitness levels and I know some of you won't like this but take pictures. These can be for your eyes only but photos now compared to photos later will help you see the results visually.

Set goals: What do you want to achieve? Set reasonable goal weights and fitness achievements. Whatever you do, make the goals achievable. Try not to set time limits on your goals that are unrealistic. Don't set yourself up for failure.

Reward system: What motivates you? If you have a lot of weight to lose break it down into 5 or 10 pound increments and give yourself small NON FOOD related rewards. If fitness is your goal, set your rewards around achieving different fitness levels. Customize it to motivate YOU!

I know the idea of rewarding yourself can be difficult for a lot of us so I'm going to ask you all for some ideas. How do you reward yourself? What are some of your goals and how can you challenge yourself? I'd love to hear how you keep it fun so please let me know in the comments.
