I am a working mom with two kids, Reece & Betsy ages 11 and 8. I work hard, play hard, and blog all the time! I play soccer on a women's league Friday nights, spend a lot of time playing with my kids, and just having fun!

I focus on making memories for my kids, because I know the memories my parents gave to me as a child will live with me forever!

Stress Less - Prepare at Night for School Mornings

With two kids who go to two different schools at two different times, mornings can be very stressful. I will admit that there have been some mornings that have been so unpleasant that I just want to go back to bed, because surely this cannot be the way I am going to start my day!

The easiest thing for me to do to alleviate most of that morning stress is to make sure both kids are prepared BEFORE they go to bed. This includes a checklist:

1. Clothes Ready - including socks and shoes
2. Lunch packed and ready
3. Back Packs packed
4. Know what they will be having for breakfast
5. Wake up at the same time every weekday
6. Wake up at least 15 minutes earlier than what is needed to get ready in the morning to avoid stress if something goes wrong.

When I follow this checklist (or my kids do) mornings are so much easier than if they wake up and nothing has been done the night before. If we do not follow this list someone always ends up yelling because they can't find their backpack, can't find their socks, don't have anything to wear, etc.

Planning is a big part in reducing stress and if you can avoid the small stresses (like mornings!), then why not at least try? Is there something you do to reduce morning stress?

Katiekat, you are right! That extra 15 minutes in the morning certainly makes the difference. There is always a missing item, or a forgotten note or a traffic jam that isn't planned for and causes that extra stress for the day.
