Teaching Children to Work Smart!
One of the best ways to learn is by doing! Teaching your children how important your job is, will help them to understand why you need quiet time, this is especially true for work-at-home-parents. Instead of lecturing my oldest daughter's on how important the work I do at home is I decided to show them!! During one of their snow days recently I set up a mock office for each of them and had them act as my assistants for the day, they were each given a work "schedule" that they each had to complete before they could finish their "work day". Their schedules included tasks like, opening and reading emails, answering the phone, filing, and using the printer when needed. At the end of the day we all sat down and talked, both girls explained that they understood how hard I work every day and promised to try to help as much as possible when I was working.
It felt great knowing that I had shown my daughter's how important my job is and our lesson has allowed me to work-smart when all of the kids are home since as my girls try to help in any way that they can while mommy is busy!
What a great mom! Your teaching them more then one valuable life lesson. Going about it in such a creative and playful way it is sure to stick!
