Today will mark my first day of intense training for my third CrossFit Invitational. I’m 39 years old, and this is what I do for fun!

What is Crossfit, you might ask? Basically, it’s a combination of gymnastics, weight training and cardiovascular endurance all mixed up into some really incredible workouts! When you take the above three main components of Crossfit mix them up, gather together 100 people from around Southern California to compete against each other, it makes for some exciting competition.

Why do I like it?!

It’s never boring. There are so many components to Crossfit that you can always improve your times, your skills or your fitness levels! I have some fantastic trainers who know my strengths and weaknesses inside and out, and are always the first ones to correct my form on any given skill.

How many of you are runners and like to enter yourself in 5km runs just for fun?

Training for a CrossFit Invitational is a little bit different in that we don’t know exactly what we’ll be doing until 3 days prior to the event. There will be movement standards announced slowly, however, it’s like training in the dark! Which is really what Crossfit is about- having the ability, strength and grace to perform whatever is asked of you regardless of whether you’ve done it before or not.

Why do I do it?

The same reason I’d train for a marathon! For fun, fitness and a new and exciting challenge!

What events are you training for?
