I'm a nineteen year old university student on the Canadian Prairies studying human development and kinesiology and applied health. I plan to enter the fields of occupational therapy and asthma education in the future.
I was diagnosed with asthma when I was seventeen, and have had my share of ups and downs living with crazy lungs.

use your asthma as a starting point to create change!
I want to help people. I've been doing volunteer work, fundraising, you name it, since I was fifteen. The cool thing about volunteering is you can make a HUGE difference, without spending a cent--which can be good if you want to make a difference but just can't afford to donate money. Donating TIME is huge too!
For this stint of my journey to create change, my friend told me about the Asthma Society of Canada's ASTHMA AMBASSADOR program -- all you have to do is TALK, and the ASC helps you with the rest! [Visit http://www.asthma.ca/ambassadors for more]
The best thing to do, is contact the resources in YOUR area. Both Canada and the United States have local chapters of the Lung Association who could likely use volunteers for awareness campaigns, projects and to spread the word on fighting lung disease. In Canada visit http://lung.ca and in the US check out http://www.lungusa.org/ to get hooked up with your local chapter. In the UK, Asthma UK is a fantastic organization -- you can find out more at http://asthma.org.uk and do TONS of cool stuff through them.
Seek out the opportunities and learn a thing or two. What have you got to lose?
What are you doing to help others breathe easier?
